Rumley Family Chiropractic P.A.: Treatment for Back Pain

At Rumley Family Chiropractic P.A., we implement multi-faceted modalities to treat back pain. It’s a holistic approach designed to optimize pain relief and good spinal health. Through gentle, manual spinal manipulations, we reposition the spine and its components into proper alignment. This reduces pain due to the spinal components putting pressure on muscles, nerves, ligaments and tendons. Spinal decompression therapy takes places on a motorized traction table that gently stretches the spine to increase space between the spinal discs. Laser therapy, ultrasound and electrical stimulation treatments use heat energy to penetrate deep soft tissues, reduce inflammation, quicken the healing process and reduce back pain.

We often integrate massage therapy into our treatment plan for back pain. It has so many benefits, including increasing blood flow to deliver nutrients for healing, boosting the body’s immune system, relaxing the muscles and reducing pain.

If you’re suffering from back pain, give us a call to schedule an appointment at Rumley Family Chiropractic P.A. Our chiropractors do a comprehensive evaluation, including orthopedic exam, neurological exam and X-rays. Once we have an accurate diagnosis of the root cause of your back pain, we create a personalized plan.

Back Pain: Causes and Symptoms

Back pain can be caused by a wide variety of factors, such as poor posture, medical condition, sports injury, workplace injury, car accident and even a sedentary lifestyle. The repetitive movements in sports along with high impact often causes muscle strain. Both low and high impact collisions in car accidents can cause whiplash. Repetitive lifting of heavy loads in occupations is a common cause of back injuries. It can cause the muscles or ligaments to stretch or develop microscopic tears. Herniated disc, degenerative disc disease and lower back muscle strain are common back injuries that cause pain.

Back pain can be moderate to severe. It may also be accompanied with muscle spasms, difficulty moving and pain that moves to the upper thigh. And if a component of your injury is irritating the sciatic nerve, you may experience sciatica. With sciatica, pain often radiates to the leg. Other symptoms of sciatica include weakness and numbness. Lumbar degenerative disc disease can affect people as young as 20. The lumbar discs begin to break down and cause inflammation, muscle spasms and lower back pain. With a herniated disc, the inner core of the disc leaks out and can put pressure on the spinal nerve root. Most disc herniations occur at the L4-L5 and L5 S1 levels. Pain can radiate from the back to the feet.

Older adults often experience back pain due to osteoarthritis and spinal stenosis. Osteoarthritis results in pain caused by the breakdown of cartilage between the spine’s joints. Initially, back pain may be intermittent but can later evolve into chronic pain. Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal column and can place pressure on the exit nerves of the spine. Even just standing upright can result in pain.

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "I got into a car accident. My first one ever in fact. I wasn't really sure where to turn or what to do, but I knew my back and neck were pretty messed up and I needed some help. I did a quick Google search and found exactly what I needed. The Rumley Family website was very professional appearing and they got back to me quickly. I started my treatment and felt like a part of the family from the get go. Treatment was consistent and they paid deep attention to where I actually hurt unlike some doctors that tell you what hurts when it doesn't. Im very satisfied and I would come back again"
